I had the privilege to photograph up at the beautiful Castle House in Bonny Doon last weekend. Have you been up there? It’s eclectic and magical. So many hidden paths and places to explore. Their receptions area is what I really love. It is poolside with twinkly lights and fire pits. Here is a peek of the lovely grounds.

Kathy and Gabe were married up at the Hollins House at Pasatiempo in Santa Cruz. It’s another one of my favorite venues with a gorgeous view of the Monterey Bay, a towering oak tree to wed under and a classic old school feel to the ball room and bar. Karissa over at Coastside Couture hooked me up with these two, however, Heidi ran the show that day since Karissa just became a mommy to the award winning boy with the biggest cheeks (congrats K!). Kathy and Gabe had their engagement session over at Thomas Forgarty where I got to hear how they met on the dance floor salsa dancing and then never traded partners all night long. So it was only fitting that their first dance was a salsa dance. Super fast pace and so on tack sharp in all their footwork. It was so fun to watch them. They flew in their favorite Latin band, Individuo from Colombia to preform during cocktail and the first portion of their dance party. Not only Kathy and Gabe but many of their friends also rock the dance floor with all their salsa moves. Their love is so authentic. Not only can they not stop dancing with each other they could not stop staring at each other either. So. in. love.
Shout out to Susanna Gill for helping me out that day! Good times S.

Sharon and her fiance she’s affectionately named, Panda tied the knot at Leal Winery. I absolutely love this venue; one for ALL the places for couples portraits but two for the amazing staff there! Owie is so great and so are the coordinators from Deluxe Design Decor, that he works closely with for your wedding day. The grounds are beautiful with vineyards, a lake, willow trees, barrel rooms, and even the recent addition of the olive grove with bocce courts and a pizza oven. It’s really magical at night and I can’t wait to shoot there again in a month when the lights will be on in the olive grove. While we didn’t see them come on this night, we did hit up all the fun locations with these two. Michael and Sharon are such a ball of fun. Michael’s so laid back and Sharon just goofs off bringing out the fun in him. The perfect match.

Sharon and Michael did alot of thing in a non-traditional way. Their engagement session follow their wedding was one of them. Sharon wanted lavender that wasn’t in full bloom until June/ July. The field she found was a dream to photograph in and well worth the wait! Her dress was perfect and flowing. She had the dress hemmed but left the sheer layer alone, allowing a beautiful dream like flow from her gown. For not being a girlie-girl Sharon, you sure fooled me with your exquisite elegance, grace and beauty. I had such a blast hanging with you two. Thanks for the adventure south!

It’s been a super busy month of travel, weddings, and even a funeral of my dear grandpa, but I found rest at a fragrant lavender field after I wrapped this beautiful engagement session. I couldn’t help but show a sneak peek from a lavender field we shot at near Santa Barbara. My bride wanted a lavender field and found one in the sweet little sleepy town of Los Olivos. That smell just adds to the romance of the session. The town itself is worth the drive with about six wine tasting rooms in each square block. The town is only about three blocks long- cute, charming and very quaint. I’m off to Portland tomorrow for more work and will post more from her engagement session along with weddings weddings and more weddings when I get back. Enjoy!

A year and a half for his visa to get approved! Yep. That’s how long Merissa waited for her love to fly over from Germany. I know her pain. My husband being Australian struggled through our American system for over a year as well before he finally got his visa approved. We dated long distance more than we dated in the same city! Oh man. I remember that like it was yesterday. I think you develop a deep relationship given that 98% of your relationship is conversation via email, letters, pictures and calls. Ralph and Merissa met in Germany during her visit with her sister who was living out there for a year for her husbands job. They had a short and sweet ceremony in Ben Lomond with seven of Merissa’s family members present. Her friend came to support her getting ready efforts and help coordinate- great help! While Merissa ran late (as many brides do) we were still able to spend time doing couple’s portraits and bridal portraits of her in her vintage gown she found second hand. She looked so elegant and lovely.
Merissa slipped into a little polka-dot dress before they all headed out to lunch at Chaminade to celebrate.

Kristin’s whole wedding is themed around Tiffany & Co. She is in love with their blue and bling. Who isn’t?! With her wedding in Carmel at La Playa Hotel, she wanted their e-session in Carmel as well. So we started downtown before heading to the beach for sunset.

Kathy + Gabe are getting hitched up at the regal Hollins House this summer. I’m so looking forward to seeing all the beautiful details she’s dreamt up with the team over at Coastside Couture. Hollin House is a favorite venue of mine as I’m in love with oak trees and the ceremony site is below a big beautiful one. The venue also over looks the Monterey Bay which is another love of my life. There is a old classic feel to the Hollins House inside that draws you in but keeps you gazing into that big Pacific.
Kathy really wanted her engagement session at a winery. She said was nervous about her shoot and asked about grabbing drinks before hand. Of course, I’ll join you! So we kicked off their session with a little wine love to loosen them up. We caught the leaves changing color last fall and made our way around the ground at Thomas Forgarty which boast not just beautiful vineyards but a little pond and a fun vintage truck.

Pre-wedding season is a fun time to knock out engagement sessions and pick up some portrait work. Danielle came over the hill to a blustering day on the coast. While it was freezing and windy, I don’t think she showed it a bit. In fact, I love the wind in her hair and skirt. I love movement in photos. I feel like it brings life to an image.
I’ll be seeing these two again for some newborn photos shortly. Shoot me an email if you’re interested in checking out my portrait collections for a mom or soon to be mom in your life! They make a great gift and I offer gift certificates as well. Mother’s Day is coming up- what are you getting?!
