Saturday, November 27th, 2010For Papa
Thursday, July 15th, 2010My dad recently moved into a new office and is big on his grandkids like all great, wonderful, amazing, playful Papa’s are. So I surprised him with a new little collage I’m going to be offering to clients. It is all custom colors, pictures, and wording. You can order it in any square size: 10×10, 12×12, 20×20. I ordered him a thin wrap, which should be surprising him on his doorstep today! You can turn it into a print, thin wrap, or canvas wrap.
It’s the sweet sixteen!
It Began with Bale
Wednesday, June 16th, 2010I just heard from Lale and he picked up a 10 day old baby boy, he promised pictures soon! He also said that he is heading back out to the Hammer tribe where there is another baby waiting for him to come rescue it. We are praying that things go smooth and that he is able to rescue this new baby. He is renting a car for this trip and it appears that it may be the last rental we need to do, the new car should be here any day now… Fingers crossed on that one!
I’m moved to tears to think that these babies and children are killed. I think of my friend, who as I write this entry, is in labor with twins. She and her husband wanted children so badly and had already been approved for adoption before being blessed with a pregnancy of their own. I guess I wrestle with the fact that the people who are not in a place or even ready to receive a child, can get pregnant and the ones who want children so badly, can sometimes not conceive. In the case of these children, they have a family and are loved. However, if the village elder says your child will bring a curse to your people and orders your child to be thrown into a river to die, you have no other choice. How heartbreaking…..for a family, a mother, and the child.
I was not in the position to be having a child at age 20, only half way into college, with my boyfriend back in his home country, Australia and legally not approved to work in my country. What a mess of timing. However, God has His own plan and brought us together, making something I only could have dreamed up become a reality. I believe if you are even willing, not necessarily ready, then He will bring change!
Kristen was willing and ready. I heard from her auntie, who is a dear friend of mine that her niece, Kristen had gone to Africa to speak with the elders to ask if they would turn the children they deem “mingi” or ”cursed” over to her and others to care for instead of throwing them into the river to drown. Thus “Drawn from Water” was born. This amazing organization has grown so much in just over a year. Within eight weeks of the first rescue, eight more children were rescued!! I believe so passionately in this organization. Ten percent of profits from Julie Cahill Photography are donated here. Happy Birthday to Me…
Friday, May 28th, 2010When Rod asked me what I want for my birthday yesterday and I couldn’t come up with an answer right away, I surprised myself. I don’t know about you, but I usually always have wish list about 10 items long in my head of varying prices. For some reason I drew a blank?!!
Just as we were about to get going for breakfast he walked in holding the box of his iphone he had just bought himself a couple weeks ago with his Christmas money from my parents. Yeah- Christmas money… my man likes to save. I had to pressure him into using his gift money for a gift!

I didn’t think I wanted one, but once he said,”I got you an iphone” and my head finally proceed that the unwrapped gift he non-chalantely walk through our bedroom door with was for me… then my head started to dream of all the helpful THINGS I could do with it. I think I had done that thing where somehow you convince yourself you don’t want or need something and really begin to believe it. I had believed it right up until he said I could have one. Then I realized I DID want one, in fact, I’ve always wanted one, but no one needs one. No one needs these types of conversations:
I’m here! Where are you?
I’m at the bar.
Oh yeah, there you are.
Yeah, I see you. Come over.
See you in a sec.
If mobile phones hadn’t been invented, the previous conversations would never have taken place. That beauty was from Dave o’neil’s book, “Everything Tastes Better Crumbed.” More from him in the future.
End of June is when the oldies go on special with the new iphone release or so we all think. Unless Walmart still has any left at the $99 special price. I can wait a month to give the business to a better party and save a $100. I don’t think I’ll go for the latest and greatest… but maybe all the bells and whistles will be bigger and better than they are projecting? I’m looking forward to getting organized with the THINGS application…. you guys should check it out if you have an iphone!
